Dr McNeil’s patients are usually referred by their general practitioner or another specialist, but self referrals are also accepted.
Common reasons for referral include:
Significant symptoms
- Weight loss
- Anaemia
- Abdominal pain
Indigestion and mouth/stomach conditions
- Indigestion (dyspepsia) including acid reflux, swallowing problems and non-cardiac chest pains
- Nutritional problems, mouth problems
- Screening for a family history of stomach cancer
Bowel and intestinal conditions
- Change of bowel habit, constipation and diarrhoea, as well as bleeding from the rectum
- Bowel evacuation problems or anal irritation
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) / food sensitivities and intolerances
- Assessment and care of patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease
- Screening for a family history of bowel cancer
- Coeliac disease
Liver and related conditions
- Abnormal liver blood tests, including jaundice
- Gallstones and disorders of the pancreas
- Fatty liver disease
- Liver (and general health) problems in association with alcohol misuse, drug reactions and other medical problems
